Sardinia towards UNESCO: The Domus de Janas in the running for glory
At TGR, the project for the UNESCO candidacy of the Domus de Janas: 35 Sardinian monuments, including the necropolises of Cheremule, at the center of an initiative that enhances the pre-Nuragic archaeology of the island.
On March 6, 2023, TGR dedicated a special report to the official presentation of the UNESCO candidacy project for the Domus de Janas, broadcasted from Cheremule. Among the 35 Sardinian monuments included, the Park of Petroglyphs stands out, a unique complex composed of three necropolises — Mosseddu, Matarigozza, and Tennero — which hold a total of 37 Domus de Janas, famous for the evocative rock carvings that give the site its name.
The project, led by the Municipality of Alghero and supported by a network of 28 municipalities, aims to achieve worldwide recognition for the value of pre-Nuragic monumental archaeology. A decisive step for the protection and enhancement of Sardinia’s millennia-old heritage, which strongly aims for UNESCO recognition.
