Domus de Janas: Towards UNESCO World Heritage

Sardinia Reporter reported the news that the National UNESCO Commission has officially accepted the nomination of the Domus de janas as a World Heritage Site.

The article reports the satisfaction of the Minister of Culture Gennaro Sangiuliano, the promoting committee led by CESIM, and the involved institutions, including the Region of Sardinia and the Network of Municipalities of the Domus de janas, with Alghero leading.

The dossier is now under review by the advisory bodies of the World Heritage Committee in Paris. The nomination, which concerns a serial site of 26 components dating between the 5th and 3rd millennium BC, highlights the uniqueness of the Sardinian archaeological testimonies between hypogeism and megalithism. The outcome of the nomination is expected for July 2025.
