Domus de Janas towards UNESCO: a Sardinian dream takes shape
The TGR celebrates the first major step of the application: the National Commission welcomes the proposal, now the dossier moves to Paris. A historic result for the project led by CESIM.
On February 7, 2024, TGR announced the first official approval for the UNESCO candidacy of the Domus de Janas. The Italian National Commission of the UN Agency has accepted the proposal presented by the scientific committee led by CESIM - Center for Studies on Identity and Memory - with the support of the Sardinia Region and the Network of Municipalities of the Domus, which sees Alghero as the leader.
The dossier, which includes 26 representative monuments of the island’s prehistoric archaeology, is now under review by the advisory bodies of the World Heritage Committee based in Paris. A decisive step towards the international recognition of a millennial heritage that tells the ancient story of Sardinia and the Mediterranean.
